Donate Toys and Make Room for New Ones!

With the holiday season nearly upon us, it’s time to start thinking about the gifts that you’ll be getting for your kids this year.  In an effort to clear up space for new toys, you can start the tradition of donating some old toys to charity each Christmas season.  Tell your children that in order to get new toys, they need to share their old ones with some less fortunate children.  Some of us here at Coppin’s Gifts do this with our kids, and we think it’s a wonderful tradition—and it helps instill a sense of goodwill and charity.

  • You should think about donating your children’s toys to a medical center in your area.  Helping out sick kids during the holiday season is very special.  These are the kids that can really use the fun and laughter that toys can bring.
  • You can also choose a national organization.  Some of these organizations require that you donate new toys, so make sure that you read the guidelines.  Toys for Tots collects toys for children from October through December each year.
  • Donate some of your used children’s toys to Goodwill or another local organization.  You can even bring your kids with you when you drop the toys off.  This way they’ll be part of the process.
  • It might also be helpful to call a social service agency to see how you could donate toys to homeless shelters, orphanages, and other similar programs.

Help make the holiday season brighter for kids in your area.  Spread the joy!  Happy Holidays from Coppin’s Gifts.

Thanksgiving Recipe Idea

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and we know you’re all getting ready to enjoy some fun with your families.  Here at Coppin’s Gifts, we just love the holidays. We thought we’d pass along one of our favorite Turkey Day recipes.  But we have to ask a question first.  Do you like cranberry sauce or applesauce?  Did you answer both?  Good.  That’s why we’re going to tell you how to make something that includes both.  It’s our amazing cranberry applesauce.  (Mouth watering yet?)

Cranberry Applesauce

This is a very easy recipe that we’re sure your whole family will love this Thanksgiving.  Just get three or four pounds of peeled, cored, and chopped apples (your choice) and about two cups of frozen cranberries.  Put that in a large pot with two tablespoons of lemon juice, some ground cinnamon (to taste), ¼ cup of brown sugar, ½ cup of white sugar, 1 cup of water, and a half teaspoon of salt.

Bring everything to a boil, lower the heat to a simmer, and then cover the pot.  Cook the mixture for about 25 minutes.  Then remove the pot from heat.  All you have to do now is mash the apples and cranberries with a potato masher.

Now you don’t have to decide between applesauce and cranberry sauce!

Everyone here at Coppin’s Gifts wishes you the happiest of Thanksgivings.  Take the time to relax—Christmas shopping is right around the corner.

Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

Give thanks for what you have this Thanksgiving

Give thanks for what you have this Thanksgiving

One of the most important aspects of the Thanksgiving holiday is the actual giving of thanks.  Now, we love the food and the togetherness… but we really need to think about what we’re thankful for.  Here at Coppin’s Gifts, we have a few tips to help you spread the most thanks on Thanksgiving.

Like we said, we love the food on this holiday.  Think about how thankful you are to have such a delicious feast.  Thank the person (or people!) that prepared the food.  Whoever did it sure put a lot of work into the meal.  And if you are able, try to contribute something to the meal.  Make something that other people can enjoy.

Then think about all of the things that you have learned this year.  Our experience is what makes us who we are, and we should be thankful for that.  Take a look around the table on Thanksgiving.  Be thankful for the people around you—they love you, and you should be grateful to have them around on this holiday.  Nobody loves you more than your family.  And, even though they drive you crazy, be thankful to have them!

Take the time to relax on this holiday.  The hectic Christmas shopping season will be around before you know it.  But, don’t worry, Coppin’s Gifts is here to help you with that, too!

Christmas Shopping on a Budget

Americans might be scaling back their holiday spending due to the economy, but that doesn’t mean that your holiday needs to suffer.  At Coppin’s Gifts, we have a few tips for you when it comes to getting your holiday shopping done without breaking the bank.  After all, the holidays are supposed to be about relaxing and enjoying family—not stressing out about money.

You might consider doing a sort of Secret Santa exchange.  Everyone draws the name of a family member and purchases a gift for them.  This means that everyone gets a present, and everyone gets to participate.  We have many great gift ideas at to get you started.

You could also choose only to give gifts to the kids.  Extended family members can only give gifts to kids under 18.  Pillow Pets and Webkinz are great ideas.  This also creates a sort of rite of passage when kids reach 18.  They switch from receiving gifts to giving gifts.

Another thing that some frugal-minded gift-givers do is to set the price limit at around $20.  This ensures that everyone is spending around the same amount of money on holiday gifts.

No matter how you decide to do your gift giving this holiday season, keep Coppin’s Gifts in mind for the best and most thoughtful presents.  We’re sure everyone will love whatever you pick out!
